The son of Alvin and Ila (Schulte) Poen, Wayne was born on November 2, 1953, in Sac City, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake and attended the Lake View/Auburn Schools where he graduated in 1971.

On May 30, 1975, Wayne was united in marriage to Donna Woerdehoff at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wall Lake. To this union four children were born: Tom, Mike, Jill and Scott. They made their home near Lake View where Wayne farmed.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; three sons: Tom Poen and fiancé Darcy, Mike Poen and wife Angie, and Scott Poen all of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Jill Poen of Lake View and her fiancé Eric of Carroll; granddaughter, Dakota Lea Poen; three brothers: Glen Poen and wife Mary of Sac City; Gary Poen and wife Becky of Nodaway, Iowa; and Ron Poen and wife Angela of Allen, Texas; many extended family members; and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Ila Poen; and sister, Ethel Gibilisco.

Wayne was a loving father, grandfather and faithful husband who loved and cherished his wife Donna. He spent every day of his life working hard, taking care of his family and friends. He loved his children and was always proud of them. He learned a lot from his children and they learned a lot from him. He took great pride in everything he did; especially his farming and keeping his fields clear of weeds and rocks.

He had a deep passion for golf, and enjoyed all his golfing buddies. He loved riding bikes, especially Goldie and was never so happy to get rid of Huffy Puffy.

He hated being alone, always wanted to be surrounded by family and friends, and even his special friend, Annie (dog), whom he taught many tricks. He had close friends and was able to talk forever on anything that involved golf, farming and life in general. He loved a good argument and always gave his two cents. He was always thankful and appreciative when someone did something for him.

Wayne was a comedian who loved being the center of attention and making everyone laugh. He was always willing to give advice, and was a mentor for many. He was a good-hearted man and an honest straight shooter, known for many things such as, wearing his children’s clothes, loved to dance, especially the robot and the sprinkler. He loved eating popcorn, and when finished you could always tell where he had been sitting.

No matter how loud he roared, he was always over it in a minute. His wake up calls annoying to say the least.

One final word…...from his wife, if his children possess the qualities that Wayne possessed, they will be as content and successful in life as their father, not only in his working endeavors but also in his love of family and his faithful nature.

……from Tom, he was my relief man.

……from Mike, I remember most the Saturday morning wakeup calls, with him standing at the bottom of the steps and yelling at the top of his lungs he was not going to come up those steps for anything. Even though I hated to get up, once I was working by his side, it was always a good day.

……from Jill, thanks for being my Mr. Fix-it-man. Dad, even though you can’t walk me down the aisle on my wedding day, I know you will be there for me in spirit.

……from Scott, I got him to come up the steps, otherwise he knew I wouldn’t hear a thing. Dad it’s okay that you always wore my hats, I don’t care now, I was proud you had one of them on when you went to heaven.

Wayne, the man with the plan. He was our Superman.
We Love You Dad!
