Ted was born on November 18, 1927, on a farm near Early, Iowa, in Clinton Township, the eldest of three sons, to William G. and Maude M. (Hunt) Leonard.  He attended the Sac City Schools graduating in 1947.

While he was in high school he set pins at a Duckpin Bowling Alley, ran the movie projector for both theaters, worked in an oil station, and for Jake Mann in the Furniture Store and Funeral Home.  After graduation Ted worked for Williams Milling Company for a short time and joined the Sac County Electric Company in 1948.  During the next several years he read meters, was a lineman, and later worked in the office.  Iowa Public Service bought Sac County Electric in 1956.  He was line foreman and then area manager for 12 cities in Sac and Buena Vista County, working for the same company 42 years before retiring from Mid American on January 30, 1990.

On June 21, 1950, wedding bells were ringing as Ted was united in marriage to Hope Lovrien Peterson in the Sac City United Methodist Church.  Three children were born to this union: William, Rebecca, and Bryan.

Ted was a life long member of the United Methodist Church having served on many church boards and “fixing” countless things needing repaired or installed.  He was active in many community projects, having served as past President of the Kiwanis Club, Country Club, Boy Scout Master, YMCA Councilor, served on the Sac City Planning and Zoning Board, City Council Member, and Sac City Ambassador.

His interests included woodworking, hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, photography, and was challenged to fix anything needing repair.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Hope Leonard; step-mother Kathryn Leonard of Sac City; his son Bill and fiancé Mary Archambault of Crystal, MN; daughter Rebecca Leonard-Shull and husband Robert of Lytton, IA; and grandson Ross Leonard of Carroll, IA.  Other survivors include his brother Donald Leonard and wife Velda of Santee, CA; brothers-in-law: Glenn Lovrien and wife Pat of Hemet, CA, and Robert Lovrien of Rockford, IL; sisters-in-law: Shirley Morris of Tigard, OR, Gladys Zwiefel of Spencer, IA, Alice Carlson of Spencer, IA, Helen and Howard Porter of Spencer, IA, and Shirley and Ray Ohrtman of Ringsted, IA; many extended family members; and a host of friends.
