Roy Werkmeister

Roy William Werkmeister, age 93, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at his home in Lake View.

The son of Herman and Magdalene (Lange) Werkmeister, Roy was born on November 12, 1913, near Odebolt, in Levy Township, rural Sac County. He was baptized and confirmed at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake where he remained a lifelong member. Roy grew up on a farm west of Wall Lake where he attended country school.

On March 20, 1949, Roy was united in marriage to Marie Medley at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. To this union a daughter was born, Linda Jane. They made their home near Lake View where Roy farmed retiring in 1981. His life was farming but his greatest love was for his family. Roy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He cherished his family and was proud of all their accomplishments. He enjoyed going fishing and traveling. Some of his favorite travel experiences included going to Canada, Mexico, and Acapulco.

He leaves to mourn his wife of 58 years, Marie Werkmeister and his daughter, Linda Jane Cleveland and her husband Lynn of Lake View; two granddaughters: Bridgette Toms and her husband James of Des Moines, Iowa and Lynette Cleveland of West Des Moines, Iowa; his half-sister, Anna Louise Lamaak of Sioux City, Iowa; and many extended family members.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Magdalene; his brothers: Charlie, George, Fred, Jim, Ed, Henry, and Alfred Werkmeister; his sisters: Elizabeth Hunziker, Rose Murr, and Christina Roth; and his half-sister Alvina Litchenberg.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 4th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View with Rev. Donald Gibson officiating. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery.

Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, August 3rd, at the funeral home in Lake View.
