Robert R. Neuhring

Robert Ray Neuhring, age 82, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Bob was born on May 19, 1925, in Yetter, Iowa, the son of Christian and Mariam (Wingerson) Neuhring. He attended eight years country school at Yetter, graduated from Lake City High School, and completed three years at Iowa State in Ames. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa.

Following graduation from high school, Bob was inducted into the U. S. Army on October 6, 1943, serving during W.W. II in the 63rd Infantry in New Guinea, the Philippine’s and Korea. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant and was squad leader of a rifle platoon. Bob was honorably discharged on January 29, 1946, and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star and Good Conduct Medal.

On December 23, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Dorothy Stuart in Rockwell City, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Robert, Bette, Kathy, Kristin and Peggy. They made their home in Sac City where Bob worked many years in quality control at Nobles Manufacturing. Dorothy passed away on October 11, 1981. After Nobles closed in 1987, Bob worked at the Iowa State Bank as maintenance man, retiring in 1997. On September 25, 1995, he married Bonnie Bauman in Sac City.

Bob enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing, and dancing. He cherished his children and grandchildren and loved their visits. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie of Sac City; his son Robert W. Neuhring and wife Rita of Chandler, Arizona; his four daughters: Bette Lohff and husband Brian of Lytton, Iowa, Kathy Winchester and husband Robert of Early, Iowa, Kristin Crabb and husband Mark of Tucson, Arizona, and Peggy Simpson and husband Doug of Sac City.

Other survivors include three step-children: Duane Bauman and wife Ruth of Sac City, Marlene Kennedy of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Dennis Bauman and wife Kim of Carroll, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren; extended family members; and many friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Dorothy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13th, at 10:30 a.m., at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 on Thursday evening at the funeral home.
