Ruby F. Larson

Ruby F. Larson, 82, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 13, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, July 16th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday where the family will be present from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Ruby was born on March 16, 1925, the daughter of William and Adele (Gathman) Hill, in Sac County, on a farm six miles south of Early, where she grew up. She was baptized and confirmed at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, attended rural country school, and graduated from Early High School in 1943.

On October 6, 1946, Ruby was married to Merlyn W. Larson at the Methodist parsonage in Lake View. This union was blessed with three children: Larry, Linda, and Lowell.

Through the years Ruby worked at several businesses in Sac City including: Hy-Pop (Noble Popcorn), Noble Manufacturing, Farber & Otteman Funeral Home and custodian at the Sac Community School, before retiring in 1990. She enjoyed puzzle books, arranging flowers, bird watching, dancing, and volunteer work at Park View Care Center. She also loved to work outdoors, taking care of her flowers, yard, and garden. Merlyn and Ruby raised strawberries that they sold, for many years.

Ruby was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City. She was a communion helper and custodian at church for several years.

She will be remembered as a very loving and gentle wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family and loved spending time with them. Survivors include her children: Larry E. Larson and wife Judy of Storm Lake, IA; Linda Wirtjes and husband Jim of Sac City, IA; and Lowell W. Larson and wife Brenda of Whiting, IA; nine grandchildren: Scott Larson of Spencer, IA, Todd Larson of Storm Lake, IA, Brenda Schwarz of Brandon, SD, Julie Lake of Le Mars, IA, Jenny Wych of Fort Collins, CO, Michelle Snyder of Oelwein, IA, Melissa Langbein of Lake View, IA, Tony Spradlin of Ida Grove, IA, and Tracey Castaldo of Battle Creek, IA; 23 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merlyn on January 12, 2003; grandson, Michael Wirtjes; great-granddaughter, Lyndsey Nicole; four brothers: Floyd, Verlyn, Howard and Don Hill; and two sisters: Vera Hill and Pearl Hill.
