Ollivene S. Olsen Ollivene
“Olly” Sophie Olsen, age 87, of Lake View, Iowa, passed
away on Friday, May 11, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City,
Iowa, from injuries she received from a motor vehicle accident on
April 24, 2007.Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, May 30th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View with Pastor Charles Bettin officiating. Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. There will be no visitation. Olly was born on October 31, 1919, in Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Christian and Anna Marie Mathesen Olsen. She graduated from Audubon High School in 1937. She attended two years at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and began teaching in rural schools in Audubon County. She worked as an associate for the Audubon County School Board. Olly completed her education by graduating from Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. She was an active member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Audubon where she served on several committees. Olly became a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View where she moved after her mother died in the early 60’s. She taught Elementary School in Lake City until retiring in the mid 80’s. She enjoyed walking, raising flowers, visiting with people, and especially her Danish heritage. She was a member of the Danish Sisterhood in Newell and Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn. She loved to cook and eat Danish food and entertain others with her annual Danish Christmas Party. She was also a member of the Lake View Flower Club. Survivors include her sister-in-law, Frances Olsen of Roswell, Georgia; three nieces: Sharon Olsen of Omaha, Nebraska, Carol (Harris) Jorgensen of Dike, Iowa, and Annelisa Olsen of California; three nephews: Robert George (Joann) Olsen of Roswell, Georgia, Paul (Kathleen) Olsen of Alpine, Texas, and Eugene Olsen of Hoffman, Minnesota; many great nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; two siblings in infancy; brothers: Peter (Peggy) Olsen, George Olsen, and Carl Olsen; her sister Marie (Jens) Hjuler; and nephew Alan Olsen. |
