Odetta M. Greve was born on December 8, 1917, at Austin, Minnesota, the daughter of Theodore and Elizabeth (Webster) Greve.  After her father died, Odetta age three, and her Mom moved to Lake View to live with her grandparents, Jim and Margaret Webster.  When Odetta was 14 years old she moved to Sac City and lived with her mother, step-father, Harry DeBourgh, and sister, Darleene.  Odetta attended schools in Lake View and Sac City and graduated from Sac City University.  After graduation she went to Des Moines to attend Thompson Beauty School, then returned to Sac City to start her career as a beautician.

Odetta was married to Winton Cleo Mason on April 15, 1938, at her parent’s home in Sac City.  This union was blessed with two sons who survive her: Winton James Mason of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, and John Kenneth Mason and his wife Linda of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Odetta was a beautician for 40 years, but her family was always her first priority.  She was a devoted wife and mother, caring for her family and providing a loving and comfortable home for them.  She was very proud of her sons and enjoyed following their activities in school and watching them grow with families of their own.  She cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved their visits.

Odetta was a member of Faith Bible Church and Imogene Rebekah Lodge in Sac City, and past President of the Iowa Rebekah Assembly.  She had a lovely voice and sang for many weddings and funerals through the years.  Odetta and Cleo enjoyed traveling and playing cards. Cleo passed away on September 16, 1990.

Other survivors include five grandchildren;  four  great-grandchildren;  her sister,  Darleene Meusburger of Sac City; extended family members; and many friends.

Odetta was preceded in death by her parents; step father Harry DeBourgh; husband Cleo; and grandson Eric.
