Miriam A. Von Ahn

Miriam Annette (Green) Von Ahn, age 83, of Sac City, Iowa, died on March 20, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Miriam was born on February 20, 1924, near Early, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Clara (Rosenhauer) Green. She attended Sacred Heart School in Early Consolidated High School in Early, and American Institute of Business (AIB) in Des Moines.
She was married to Duane (Duke) Von Ahn at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City on July 10, 1947. They made their home and raised their family in the Sac City/Early area.

Miriam worked in the Farm Bureau/Extension Office, in the John Schulte Law Office, in various other offices in Sac City, and retired from the Sac County R. E. C. office because of disabling health problems in 1986.

She is survived by her children: James, Gene and wife Jan, Walter and wife Jill, Ray, Joan and husband Robert McDonnell, Jane and husband Ed Pace, and Mark and Rhonda; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sisters Colette Wiseman and Janet Wesselman; sisters-in-law: Zola Damm, Lois Von Ahn, and Grace Green; and many nieces and nephews.

Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son Roy, and brother David.

She greatly enjoyed family gatherings, crocheting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, playing cards, and following the horse-related and other sports activities of her children and grandchildren.

Mass of the Christian burial will be held at 10:30, Friday, March 23rd, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with burial at Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22nd, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with prayer vigil at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials in Miriam’s name will be directed to St. Mary’s for the expansion project, plants for the flower garden, or as the family wishes.
