Lester Tiefenthaler

Lester Henry Tiefenthaler, age 74, of Early, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 20, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 23rd, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early, Iowa, with Father Larry Burns officiating. Burial will be at the Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 on Sunday, July 22nd, at the funeral home in Sac City with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m.

The son of Jacob (Jake) and Mary (Maim) Derner Tiefenthaler, Les was born on May 29, 1933, in Carroll County. His parents lived in Carroll County for a while and later moved to Early. He was baptized at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early where he remained a life-time member of the Sacred Heart Parish. He attended school through the eighth grade at Sacred Heart Catholic School.

On June 28th, 1954, Les was married to Donna Haradon at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. They made their home near Early where Les farmed. This union was blessed with a son, Raymond, and two daughters, Nancy and Kim.

Les loved the farm life, he took great pride in keeping his crops free of weeds, and looked forward to the fall harvest. Farming was his life but his family was his love. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother. Les enjoyed a good game of cards, going fishing, and watching sports on TV. He cherished the time he could spend with his family and friends, especially watching his grandchildren grow up and following their activities in school. Les retired from farming in 2000.

Survivors include his wife, Donna (they celebrated their 53rd anniversary on June 28th); son Raymond Tiefenthaler and wife Jolene of Early; two daughters: Nancy Suhr and fiancé Tracy Heuton of Nemaha, Iowa, and Kim Fickett and husband Terry of Sioux City, Iowa; six grandchildren: Angie (Patrick) Brenner of Lytton, Iowa; Justin (Kami) Tiefenthaler of Early; Dylan, Blake, and Rachel Suhr of Nemaha; and Isabella Fickett of Sioux City; three great-grandchildren: Austin Brenner of Lytton and Joseph and Jolynn Tiefenthaler of Early. Other survivors include his brothers: Elmer Tiefenthaler and Marvin Tiefenthaler and his wife Rita, and a sister Wilma Feilmeier, all of Early, Iowa; many extended family members and friends.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Maim Tiefenthaler; sisters: Irene and Alma Tiefenthaler; sister-in-law Rita Tiefenthaler; two brothers: Urban Tiefenthaler and Emery Tiefenthaler and his wife Lois; and father and mother-in-law, Dwight Haradon and Rachel (Ellis) Haradon.
