Nitzke, age 91, of Sac City, Iowa, formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa, died
at home on Wednesday, March 21, 2007, following a long illness.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 24th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with burial following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., on Friday, March 23rd at the funeral home with a vigil service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Lucille Marian Pettit was born January 1, 1916, and adopted by William and Anna Pettit. She was raised on the family farm three miles south of Rembrandt. She attended elementary and high school in Rembrandt, graduating in 1934. On April 28, 1937, she married William Nitzke in St. Mary’s Church, Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple lived briefly in Ames, Iowa, and Grafton, North Dakota, before making a home in Storm Lake. After working briefly at Wallen’s Department Store, she became a stay-at-home mom. Her hobbies were sewing, fishing, cards, and bingo. She was a formidable opponent at card games of any type, but cribbage was one of her favorite games. Lucille was a member of St. Mary’s Parish at Storm Lake, the Catholic Daughters of America, and St. Mary’s Guild. Left to cherish Lucille’s memory are her husband Bill; her daughter Maryann (Chuck) Mason of Ashland, Oregon, son Michael (Carol) Nitzke of Sac City, Iowa, and son Joseph (Mary Ellen Ellyson) Nitzke of Newcastle, Nebraska; former daughter-in-law Madonna Nitzke of Sioux City, Iowa; three grandchildren: Will Mason of Okinawa, Japan, Theodore Nitzke of Rochester Hills, Michigan, and Greta Nitzke of Chicago, Illinois. Also surviving are three step grandchildren: Chris (Nancy) Bruscher of Parker, Colorado, Andrew Bruscher of Eureka, California, and Kimberly Bruscher of Iowa Falls, Iowa. Preceding Lucille in death were her parents, Will and Anna Pettit. |
