Janet
Jewel Nees, age 72, of Keystone, Iowa, formerly of the Early, Iowa
area, passed away on Monday, July 2, 2007, of a sudden illness,
at Grinnell Regional Medical Center in Grinnell, Iowa.
Janet was born on September 7, 1934, the daughter of Mearl and Hazel
(Hartsell) Platt. She grew up and attended school in Early, Iowa.
Following high school, she pursued her dream of becoming a nurse
and graduated from the Mercy School of Nursing in Sioux City, Ia.
On September 20, 1955, Janet was united in marriage to Richard Nees
at the Sacred Heart Church in Early. They made their home near Early
where Richard farmed and Janet worked as a nurse at surrounding
hospitals and nursing homes.
Janet’s love was always her nursing career, caring for and
encouraging others in all aspects of life. She even inspired her
three daughters and one granddaughter along with many others to
follow in her nursing footsteps. She will be remembered as a tiny
but mighty lady who crusaded for many causes. Janet also enjoyed
her newspaper clippings and one line quotes along with painting
and her pig collection. In recent years, Janet resided at Keystone
Care Center Assisted-Living Apartments to be close to her daughter
Molly. She was known as the life of the party and provided comic
relief for everyone there.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; three daughters: Jackie
(Terry) Duffy of Sac City, Jan (Todd) Kelly of Lake View, and Molly
(Tom) Meusburger of Belle Plaine; son, Dave (Marla) Nees of Early;
