Ivan Viggo Olsen, age 85, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, at his home in Sac City.
   
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14th at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Sac City with Rev. Ross Craig officiating.  Burial will be at the Newell Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
   
Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, July 13th, at the funeral home in Sac City.

Ivan was born May 16, 1922, in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Marius J. and Christina (Christensen) Olsen.  He grew up on a farm near Nemaha and graduated from Nemaha High School in 1939.  He was united in marriage to Ardyce Toomer on March 28, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona.  Shortly after his marriage he was inducted into the U. S. Navy in San Diego, California, on November 4, 1942.  He earned the rank of Machinist’s Mate, 3rd Class and was honorably discharged on December 11, 1945, at Shoemaker, California.  He returned to the Sac City area and played softball with the local “8 Balls” team for many years.
    
They made their home in Sac City, where Ivan was a rural mail carrier for 19 years and Post Master for ten years.  He retired in the early 1980’s.  He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing in Canada, playing golf, and wintering in Arizona.  Ivan was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Sac City, serving on several boards, and a member of the V. F. W. and fifty year member of the American Legion.
    
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family.  Those left to cherish his memory include two sons: Richard and his wife Jill of St. Charles, Illinois, and Robert and his wife Linda of Rockwell City, Iowa; five grandchildren: Erin and her husband, Lt. Col. John Lyons, Ashley and her husband Philip Gieschen, David Olsen, Derrin Olsen, and Kelly and her husband Keith Kraft; two great-grandchildren: Grace and Max Lyons; brother-in-law, Mike Shull of Storm Lake; and sisters-in-law, Clare Olsen of Spencer and Betty Mason Grimsman and her husband Vern of Lake View; extended family members and many friends.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ardyce on September 6, 2002; sister, Norma Shull; and brother Arnold Olsen.
