Harry A McCollum

Harry A McCollum, age 94, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Monday, April 09, 2007, at his home in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Friday, April 13th, at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Pastor Vicki Fisher officiating and burial at Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 14th at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

The son of Harry and Mayme (Shields) McCollum, Harry was born October 21, 1912, in Kenney, Illinois. He was a high school graduate of Kenney School.

On November 30, 1938, Harry was united in marriage to Vera Marie Schnirring in Kansas City, Missouri. They made their home in Sac City where Harry farmed. This union was blessed with three children: Harry Allen, Carole Ann, and Charles Lee.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows in Sac City. He enjoyed going fishing, his pets, and yard-work. He remained very active after retiring March 1, 1974. He liked to help others and was able to do yard-work and snow shoveling for 11 widow ladies until he reached the age of 92.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Vera Marie McCollum of Sac City; his children: Harry Allen McCollum and wife Susan of Council Bluffs, IA, Carole Ann Conger and husband Cary of Sac City, and Charles Lee McCollum and wife Sima of Chantilly, VA; eight grandchildren: Michael (Jennifer) McCollum of Rockville, MD, Scott (Mary) McCollum of Faribault, MN, Jane (Adam) Van Dyke-Flogstad of Omaha, NE, Sarah (Jason) Helm of Lansing, MI, Deborah (David III) Swanson of Gardner, KS, and Kevin, Suzanne, and Shayla McCollum all of Chantilly, VA; five great-grandchildren: John, Nicholas, and Brandon McCollum of Faribault, MN, Lacey Van Dyke of Omaha, NE, and Elijah Michael Helm of Lansing, MI. Other survivors include a sister, Ruth Velma (McCollum) Johnson and husband Robert of Sac City and extended family members.
His parents, Harry and Mayme, and a brother, Herman, preceded Harry in death.
