Grace E. Levin Grace
Caldwell Levin, age 95, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday,
July 25, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa.Services for Grace will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 28th, at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View. Visitation will be prior to the funeral service at the church beginning at 9:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Odebolt Cemetery. The Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View is in charge of arrangements. Grace was born on February 14, 1912, to Frank and Bessie Luscombe Caldwell on a farm near Ida Grove, Iowa. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1930 and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She worked at the high school library and was a school statistician for two years. She taught in country schools for several years. She joined the Rebekah Lodge in Ida Grove in 1935. She was a past noble grand, noble grand of the Degree Staff, and district convention president. Grace married Elmer Levin in February 1943 and they lived on a farm near Ida Grove. They moved to Lake View a few years later, and then moved to a farm near Arthur. She taught Sunday school, was Sunday school superintendent, United Methodist Women president and treasurer, a Methodist Youth Fellowship leader, and was also president of the Arthur School Boosters. Grace and Elmer moved back to Lake View in 1972. They spent several winters in Texas and one winter in Arizona. Elmer died in 1977. Grace was a member of the Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View. For several years, she enjoyed playing the prelude for church and with the organist for the hymns. She was also president of United Methodist Women in Lake View for three years and treasurer for 17 years. She enjoyed playing the piano, reading, sewing, and working crossword puzzles. Survivors include three daughters: Marilyn Jascor of Wisconsin and Arizona; Beverly (Mrs. Edward) Melin of Lake View, IA; and Gloria Levin of Lake View, IA; a brother Kenneth (Virginia) Caldwell of Silver Spring, MD; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; two sisters; two brothers, and two grandsons. |
