George E. Bartlett

George Edward Bartlett, age 82, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 4, 2007, at Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, May 7th, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake with Pastor Roger Carlisle officiating. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Wall Lake American Legion Chalon Post No. 262. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be at the funeral home in Wall Lake from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday Mary 6th, where the family will be present.

George was born May 29, 1924, on a farm south-west of Wall Lake, Crawford County, Iowa, the son of Sadie (Schupiter) and George A. Bartlett, Sr. He grew up on the farm and attended Levey #7 Country School and Wall Lake High School, receiving his high school diploma after being discharged from the service.

On September 19, 1944, George was inducted into the U. S. Army serving during World War II in the South Philippines Liberation. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Battle Star, the Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead Army of Occupation Ribbon-Japan, Lapel Button, and three Overseas Service Bars. He was honorably discharged from Company K 20th Infantry Division on November 5, 1946 at Fort Sheridan Illinois earning the rank of PFC.

After his return home he started farming and on March 1, 1949, was united in marriage to La Vona Huse at the First Lutheran Church in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1985 George retired from farming and moved into Wall Lake. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed as an adult. George was a devoted husband who loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed reading and being outdoors; hunting and fishing.

George is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, La Vona Bartlett of Wall Lake; his sister Norma Jean Pudenz and husband Leon of Carroll, Iowa; brother Harold Bartlett and wife Mavis of Wall Lake; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Robert and Vyrl Bartlett; and parents-in-law William and Martha Huse.
