Doris Maxine Weitzel was born on August 11, 1924, to Henry and Ruth
(Andrews) Weitzel, the fifth of six children. Doris attended Hayes
and Storm Lake schools, beginning school at the age of four.
Doris was married to Raymond Wedeking on February 2, 1947, during
a Groundhog Day’s storm. Doris and Raymond had four children:
Dawn, Steven, Joan, and Lance. They farmed south of Nemaha for nearly
25 years. Raymond passed away in 1970.
In 1975, Doris was married to James Currie of Schaller. They resided
on the farm south of Nemaha. Doris was employed as activities director
at Park View Care Center in Sac City for nearly 20 years. James
passed away in 1986.
In the next few years, Doris enjoyed some traveling with close friends.
In 1997, Doris and Lauren McBride were married in Nemaha. They resided
north of Early during summer months and in Mesa, Arizona, during
the winter.
Doris’ favorites included her church activities, gardening,
dancing, golf, music, birds, the color turquoise, Easter egg hunts,
kittens, and family get-togethers. She didn’t have a lot of
dislikes, but her list included: tornadoes, city driving, boating,
and being around water. As a result of growing up in the Depression
era, Doris’ kids remember one of the mottos she always followed:
“Use it up, wear it out-make it do or do without.”
Survivors include her husband, Lauren McBride; her children: Dawn
(Armin) Christiansen of Early, Steve (Louanne) Wedeking of Ankeny,
Joan (Tom) Ross of Urbandale; and Lance (Jackie) Wedeking of Nemaha;
ten grandchildren: Tina (Todd) Davenport, Aaron (Lori) Christiansen,
