Doris D. Lauritsen
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City with Pastor Andrew Ratcliffe officiating. Burial will be at the Ebenezer Lutheran Cemetery in rural Audubon at 2:30 p.m., under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Thursday at the funeral home in Sac City. Doris was born on September 7, 1933, at Audubon, Iowa, the daughter of Magnus and Mildred Irene (Varley) Madsen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. She grew up on a farm near Audubon, attended country school, and graduated from Audubon High School in 1952. On July 5, 1952, Doris was united in marriage to Virgil A. Lauritsen at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They moved to Sac City in 1967. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Doris was co-owner of Culligan Soft Water Service in Audubon, Sac City Dry Cleaning, and Lake City Cleaners & Laundry Mat. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, caring for her family’s needs, making a comfortable home with her love for quilting, sewing, and knitting. She also enjoyed traveling, family vacations, and camping. She liked to tell the story of their trip to Yellowstone National Park when the children came down with the mumps and they had to come home. Survivors include her husband, Virgil; four children: Cindy Lauritsen of Spirit Lake, IA; Craig Lauritsen of Sac City; Karla Lauritsen and husband Robert Vocke of White Salmon, WA, and their son, Bergen L. Vocke; and Kirk Lauritsen of Pomona, KS; her sister, Joy St. Peter and husband Deane of Audubon, IA; and extended family members. Doris was preceded in death by her parents; brother Clair Madsen; sister Rosa Marie Madsen, and stepmother Clara Madsen. |
