On November 28, 1926, on a farm near Wichita, Iowa, Dorothy Lena Jorgensen was born to Albert and Ruth (Readinger) Jorgensen.  She was baptized November 25, 1928 in Wichita, Iowa. They continued to live on the farm in Guthrie County where Dorothy attended Wichita Country School, Seeley #4, from 1932-1940, and graduated from Guthrie Center High School with the class of 1944.  She began teaching country school in a one room school house after graduating from High School.  She continued her education with two years at the Iowa State Teachers College, Cedar Falls, and finished at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, earning her B.A.  She taught school for a total of 31 years.

Dorothy was united in marriage to Randall Dean Kreft on March 24, 1952, in Guthrie Center, Iowa, at the Wichita Methodist Church.  This union was blessed with a son, Darwin.  They made their home near Sac City where Randy farmed and Dorothy taught in the Sac Community School system beginning in the mid to late 60’s.

On March 29, 1953, Dorothy was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.  She was involved in many church activities, taught Sunday school, and was a member of  the Ladies Aid.

Dorothy loved to read, enjoyed playing cards with her Bridge Club, doing crossword puzzles, dancing, especially square dancing, gardening, tending her flowers, and playing the piano.  She cherished teaching and playing the piano for the Kindergarten students.  She had quite a collection of salt and pepper shakers she bought during her travels.  Randy and Dorothy took many family trips to the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park.  One of the highlights of their many travels would be when they went to India to visit their son, Darwin, who was teaching at the American Embassy School, rode an elephant at Amber Palace in Jaipur, and also visited the Taj Mahal in Agra.  Some of her other travels included flying with Randy and attending flight breakfasts.  Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  She will be missed by many, including her high school friends, Pat, Ruth, Martha and Darlene.  Every summer they would have a Round Robin Reunion, getting together with their husbands and children for a day of fun and reminiscing. They started their reunions after  graduation from high school and continued to the present.

Survivors include her husband, Randy of Sac City; son Darwin  and wife Dinna (De Leon) Kreft of Maple Grove, MN;  granddaughter Denise Kreft of New York, NY; grandsons: David Kreft and Daniel Kreft of Maple Grove, MN; sister Sheryl Hughes and husband Darwin of Guthrie Center, IA; brother Al Jorgensen, Jr. and wife Darlene of Albuquerque, NM; extended family members; and a host of friends.
