Delmer D. Huisenga
Delmer Duane Huisenga was born May 13, 1928, on the family farm near Lake View, Iowa, the son of Richard and Martha (Poen) Huisenga. He was baptized on July 1, 1928, at Emmanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon, Iowa. He attended rural school and then graduated from Lake View High School on May 9, 1945. He enjoyed pitching for the local baseball team.
Delmer was united in marriage to Ivadell Schoneboom on June 27, 1948. He was confirmed April 17, 1949, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View and was an active member, serving as an Elder and Trustee.
He was the sexton of the Ferguson Cemetery for many years.
He enjoyed playing cards with his many friends and family and was an avid sports fan, playing many a game of horseshoes.
Delmer farmed the family farm for 46 years, retiring in 1994, and still lived on the Huisenga homestead.
Delmer, age 79, passed away December 5, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Ivadell of Lake View; children: Jeff and wife Sheryl of Lake View; and Michael and wife Janice of South Sioux City, NE; six grandchildren: Jason Huisenga, Dan (Renee) Huisenga, Stacy (Jim) Lally, Derick, Dylan, and Drew Huisenga; three great-grandchildren: MaKenna, Ayden, and Layne Huisenga; and a sister Darlene Hanson. Other survivors include: sisters-in-law: Mavis Baird and Beverly (Don) Williams; brothers-in-law: Eldo (LaVerna) Schoneboom and Curtis (Marty) Schoneboom; and many extended family members.
Delmer was preceded in death by his parents; brother Marvin Huisenga; brothers-in-law Curtis Baird, Vernon Wicker, and Vernal Hanson; and sister-in-law Maxine Huisenga.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 10th, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View with Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be at the Ferguson Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home in Lake View.
