Bernice A. Baker

Bernice A. Baker, 95, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died Thursday, October 11, 2007.  She was born July 1, 1912, in Wall Lake, Iowa, to William and Susan Kelly. 

Bernice moved to Scottsdale in the mid 1950s when the population was about 7,000 people.  She purchased property on 5th Avenue when it was still a gravel road and opened “Clara’s”, a beauty salon.  Bernice was a longtime member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and the Elks Club. 

She was preceded in death her parents; two husbands: George Thorndike in 1968 and Harold Baker in 1997; brothers and sisters, Harold and Arnold Kelly, Irene Malloy, Elsie Lawler, and Mary Downey.  She is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 17th, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 7655 E. Main Street, Scottsdale, followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m.  Interment will take place at the Wall Lake Cemetery, Wall Lake, Iowa, on Friday, October 19th, at 10:00 a.m. with Father John McGuirk officiating.
