Ann E. Scriver

Ann E. Scriver, age 93, of Sac City, Iowa, formerly of Santa Cruz, California, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Ann Emelia Larson was born on May 12, 1914, on a farm in Blinsmon Township, Moody County, South Dakota to Lauritz and Verbena Weflan Larson. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on July 5, 1914 at Oslo Lutheran Church. Ann grew up on a farm and attended Kirkland Country School, graduating from Trent High School in 1932.

She continued her education at the nursing school at The McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating in 1935 with an R.N. Degree. It seems she was destined to be a nurse, as she was born on May 12, and so was Florence Nightingale, which was also the date of Ann’s graduation from nursing school. Following graduation Ann and her best friend Pauline moved to California to pursue their nursing careers, and found more than work, they found love, becoming more than friends they became sisters-in-law. On July 2, 1938, Ann was united in marriage to Errol F. Scriver in Santa Cruz, California, and Pauline married Errol’s brother Norris Scriver.

Ann’s nursing career spanned 45 years. She worked in a Watsonville hospital and as an industrial nurse in Santa Cruz, before joining Dr. Bernard Karleen, in Soquel, California in 1962, working for 21 years as his office nurse.

After retiring Ann and Errol enjoyed traveling together, entertaining and visiting with their friends and family. They loved music, Errol enjoyed playing the violin and piano, and they loved to dance.

In October of 2002 they moved to the Loring Care Center in Sac City. Errol passed away on December 28, 2003.

Survivors include three sisters-in-law: Pauline Acronico, Betty Stepanek, and Jane Larson; long time friend, Dr. Bernard Karleen; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lauritz and Verbena Larson; husband Errol; three sisters: Eldora Headrick, Henrietta Kern, and Edith Larson; and two brothers: Louis and Vern Larson.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December 6th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Reverend Wayne Pfannkuch officiating. Burial will be at Santa Cruz, California.
