Alma A. Johnson

Alma A. Johnson, age 97, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2007, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 20th, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City with Rev. Charles Bettin officiating. Burial will be at Luckow Cemetery in Auburn under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 19th, at the funeral home in Sac City.

Alma was born on the family farm near Auburn, Iowa, on October 6, 1909, the daughter of Max and Ella (Bush) Luckow. She was baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Ulmer. She attended country school through the eighth grade.

On November 24, 1925, Alma was united in marriage to Johnnie Johnson. They made their home near Jolley where Johnnie farmed. This union was blessed with eleven children.

Alma was always busy caring for her children and helping Johnnie on the farm. She enjoyed patching clothes, working in her garden, growing vegetables for canning, and picking fresh strawberries to eat. She still found time to follow their activities in school and provide a warm and comfortable home. She loved to play cards and up to the day before she passed away, Alma enjoyed her last game of cards.

Survivors include her children: Eloise Hillmer and husband Melvin of Lytton, IA, Donald Johnson and wife Doris of Lake City, IA, Delores Phillips and husband Bill of Red Wing, MN, Darlene Peyton and husband Darrell of Long Prairie, MN, Duane Johnson and wife Lynn of Fort Dodge, IA, Mavis Zeimet and husband Ron of Livermore, IA, Darrell Johnson and wife Norma of Fort Dodge, IA, Dean Johnson and wife Marci of Arlington, TX, Dennis Johnson and wife Patty of Jolley, IA, and Diana Diersen and husband Dave of Sac City, IA. Other survivors include 34 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great grandchildren; and many extended family members.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents; husband Johnnie in 1980; daughter Mildred Williams; sisters Ida Golderman and Erma Wolfe; brothers Harvey and Walter Luckow; grandson Ricky Hillmer; and great-grandson, Preston Rohr.
