William “Soup” Campbell

William Jr. “Soup” Campbell, age 68, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 8, 2006, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 11th, at 11:00 a.m. at the Wall Lake Cemetery with Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 10th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.

Soup was born on July 14, 1938, in Wall Lake, the son of William Ernest and Elsie (Koenck) Campbell.  He was baptized at the Wall Lake Presbyterian Church as an infant and attended Wall Lake grade school and high school through the 11th grade.  Soup was inducted into the U.S. Army and served his country from 1957-1960.  He received his G.E.D. while in the service.

Through the years he worked at I. B. P. and did some construction labor. He was married to Elizabeth “Betty” Bischof and later divorced.  Two children were born to this union: Patricia and William.   He loved to go hunting, trapping and fishing, especially at Lake Okoboji.  His sister, Marilyn, remembers how he always made her bait her own hook (leeches) and he could always get his childhood friends to do his chores for him.  He enjoyed the outdoor life and his many friends.

Survivors include his daughter Patricia Fletcher of Council Bluffs, IA; his son William S. Campbell of Estherville, IA; three step-children: Desi Bartel and husband Tony of Glenwood, IA, Debbie Jones and husband Ralph of Conroe, TX, and Keith Campbell and wife Cheryl of Sioux City, IA; three grandchildren: Kyle Fletcher, Tyler Campbell, and Olivia Campbell; brother Roger L. Campbell and wife Cheryl of Deloit, IA; two sisters: Marilyn Grote and husband Arnie of Denison, IA and Sharon Richardson of San Diego, CA; extended family members; and many friends.

Soup was preceded in death by his parents, William E. and Elsie Campbell.
