Shirley I. Domino

Shirley I. (Drewry) Domino was born October 31, 1921, in Sac City, the daughter of Clair and Lavanda (Abbott) Drewry. She attended school at Douglas #6 Country School and went to Sac City High School, graduating in 1939. She was employed at the Sac County Rural Electric Cooperative, starting in November 1939 and worked there until 1946.

Shirley was baptized and confirmed at the First Christian Church in Sac City, transferring her membership to Early United Methodist Church in June of 1947.

She married Keith Domino on January 16, 1946, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Omaha, Nebraska. To this union two children were born, Greg and Colleen. The family lived in the Early-Nemaha area. She worked at the Early Public Schools three years as secretary of the superintendent and Board of Education at the time Early/Nemaha became the Crestland Community Schools.

She liked reading, gardening and sharing the fruits and vegetables with friends. Shirley and Keith spent many winter evenings watching college and NBA basketball and enjoyed coffee breaks with their hired farm help. She especially enjoyed playing cards with her grandchildren.

Shirley was a 50 year member of the Early United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Past Matron of the Eastern Star, SOS Club of which she had been a member for over 60 years, and served on the Early Public Library Board.

Shirley I. Domino, 85, of Early, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at Park View Care Center in Sac City. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Sarah Coombs, Mamie Drewry, and Wilma Hicks; brother Ford Drewry; and granddaughter Bethine Lens.

She leaves to mourn her husband Keith; son Greg Domino and wife Marilyn of Schaller, Iowa; daughter Colleen Lens and husband Jim of Burlington, Iowa; three grandchildren: Josh and fiancé Jill Wieber, Stacey Lens, and Chris Domino and wife Nicole; two step grandchildren: Molly Wanberg and Ryan Bainbridge; two great-grandchildren; nine step great- grandchildren; sister-in-law Anne Willert; many nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 30th, at 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Early with Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be at the Buena Vista Memorial Cemetery in Storm Lake under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, December 29th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
