Mary Jane Neppl

Mary Jane Neppl, age 82, of Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2006, in Wall Lake.

Mass of the Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 16th, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wall Lake with Father John McGuirk officiating. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., (family present from 5:00-7:00) with a Vigil service at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 15th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.

Mary Jane Powers was born on March 26, 1924, at Vail, Iowa, the daughter of Linus L. and Elsie R. (Pieper) Powers. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Vail. She graduated from St. Ann’s High School in May of 1942. She continued her education at Iowa State Teachers College, receiving her teacher’s certificate in August of 1945.

On May 18, 1946, Jane was united in marriage to Marcus A. Neppl at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. This union was blessed with eight children: Suzanne, Elaine, Joseph, Donna, Larry, Mike, Dan, and Lauri.

Jane was a devoted wife and mother. She dedicated her life to raising her family in a Christian home surrounded with love. She taught country school and 5th grade at Boys Town in Omaha; was a librarian at the Public Library in Wall Lake; bookkeeper/secretary at Neppl Hatchery; dental assistant; homemaker; and great Mom!

With eight children she was very busy, always teaching and leading her children and grandchildren through example, how to live a Christian life. She taught CCD classes; was a member of St. Joseph Guild and the Wall Lake Public School Board; Cub Scout’s Den Mother, 4-H leader, Wall Lake Women’s Club, and member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1942.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, gardening, travel, cooking, baking, baseball (St. Louis Cardinals), attending sporting and musical events, history, and especially, dancing with Marcus. Special family memories include their family vacations and holidays, her wonderful sense of humor and her special love and admiration for her brother Earl.

Survivors include her loving husband of 60 years, Marcus Neppl; her children: Suzanne Guthrie and husband Bob of Columbia, MO; Elaine Neppl of Papillion, NE; Joseph Neppl and wife Vicki of Wall Lake, IA; Donna Cooper and husband Bill of Eldridge, IA; Larry Neppl of Lake View, IA; Michael Neppl and wife Jo Ann of Humboldt, IA; Daniel Neppl and wife Rose of Omaha, NE; and Lauri Niehaus and husband Jeff of Sac City, IA. Other survivors include twelve grandchildren; nine step grandchildren; twelve step great-grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Linus and Elsie Powers; brother, Earl Powers; and step great-grandson, Gable.
