Mabel H. Janssen
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7th, 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon. Carl Lee, CLP, will officiate with burial at the Carnarvon Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Lake View. Mabel was born on October 15, 1908, in Jackson Township, Crawford County, Iowa, the daughter of William Meyer and Caroline (Lena) Christiansen Meyer. She married Jacob “Jake” Janssen at the age of 20 on October 2, 1928. They settled on the family farm north of Breda, south of Carnarvon where they fostered several young children. Son, Gene Janssen, was born and raised on “the family farm” until they moved to Lake View in 1957. Mabel was a dedicated member of Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Carnarvon and served as an officer of Ladies Aid and several years as church treasurer. After the move to Lake View in 1957, Mabel operated a home for the elderly until 1973, when Jake and Mabel moved and settled in Carnarvon. She remained in Carnarvon until her decision to move to Twilight Acres in 1998 following the death of Jake in 1994. Her greatest joys were in sharing memories and news with family and friends. Her most cherished possessions were the friendships that grew from her 97 years. Mabel is survived by her son Gene; daughter-in-law Maggie; grandchildren: Jennica Janssen, David and Tiffany Janssen, and Steve and Teresa Olerich; sister-in-law, Margaret Meyer; and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jake Janssen; sister-in-law Bilda Corn; son Bob Olerich; daughter-in-law Kathy Olerich; her two brothers: Elmer and Julius Meyer; and her sister Viola Meyer Brotherson. |
