Melvin G. Herrig

Melvin G. Herrig, 68, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 28th, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City with Rev. Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Family and friends may call at the Funeral Home in Sac City on Monday, November 27th, with the family present from 4:00-8:00 p.m.

Melvin was born on April 22, 1938, at Lake View, the son of Gilbert and Katherine (Schulte) Herrig. He attended country school and graduated from Lake View High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Helen L. Jarvis on July 11, 1959, in Sac City. To this union three children were born: Duane, Craig, and Amy.

Mel farmed near Lake View, Wall Lake, and Odebolt before moving into Sac City in June of 1986, where he co-owned the M & H Bar. Mel worked in house cleaning at Black Hawk Life Care Center at Lake View, from 1990 through early 2006. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City.

Mel loved his family and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s activities at school and spending time with them.

Survivors include his son, Duane Herrig and wife Mary of Sac City; daughter, Amy Herrig of Sac City; three grandchildren: Thomas Herrig, Ashley Tilden, and Casey Herrig; and his sisters, Joyce Page and husband Russell of Lake View and Jeanette Susie and husband Darrell of Correctionville, Iowa; extended family members; and friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen on August 20, 1988, and son Craig Herrig on February 25, 1990.
