Margaret Irene (Irwin) Hendrickson passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Methodist Manor Care Center in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was 88 years of age.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 25th, at Lakes United Methodist Church in Lake View with burial at Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 24th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Margaret was born March 4, 1918 in Boyer Valley Township, Sac County, Iowa to Lewis Edward and Elva (Johnson) Irwin. She had one sister, Verda Carpenter. After her mother died of Spanish flu January 24, 1919, she and her sister Verda went to live with Elva’s sister, Irene Johnson Irwin and her husband Robert P. Irwin. They had three children, Maurice Irwin, Dorothy Irwin Weitzel, and Norma Irwin Arnold.

Margaret graduated from Sac City High School in 1936. She married J. Preston Hendrickson on November 26, 1937 in Spencer, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in partnership with her father, Lew Irwin on a farm near Early, Iowa. Margaret and Preston had five children: David, John, Jane, Dan, and Rose Mary.

She was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist Church, when it closed she transferred her membership to the Lake View United Methodist Church, where she served on several committees as well as circle. Margaret was a member of two neighborhood clubs: the T-4-U Club and the Pleasant Pass Timers Club.

She enjoyed cooking and gardening and in later years traveling with her husband Preston. She loved being part of the big Irwin family as well as a welcomed member of the large Hendrickson family. She especially enjoyed all their family gatherings whether large or small. Everyone’s birthday was an occasion for celebration including his or her choice of cake.

Margaret was preceded in death by her mother, Elva; her father, Lewis; as well as Robert and Irene Irwin; sister, Verda Carpenter; Maurice Irwin; and in October of 1988 her husband of 50 years, J. Preston Hendrickson.

Margaret is survived by her five children: David (Nancy) Hendrickson of Early, John (Jan) Hendrickson of Early, Jane (Marvin) Meusburger of Spencer, Dan Hendrickson of Early, and Rose Mary (John) Wheeler of Kansas City, MO; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Other survivors include Dorothy Weitzel of Storm Lake; Norma Arnold of Littleton, Colorado; Kathryn Irwin of Sac City; and many other relatives and friends.
