Kenny was born on January 8, 1924, on the family farm near Breda in Crawford County, Iowa, the son of George and Jessie (Weers) Brotherson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church in Breda as a child, where he remained a life long member. Kenny graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1942.

He was inducted into the United States Army on March 10, 1943 at Camp Dodge, Iowa serving his country during World War II in northern France and Rhineland. He earned an EAME Ribbon, two Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, and the Purple Heart for wounds received November 26, 1944 in Germany. Kenneth D. Brotherson, Private First Class, 358th Infantry Regiment, was honorably discharged from the Hospital Center at Camp Carson, Colorado on July 6, 1945.

On December 5, 1953, Kenny was united in marriage to Vynola “Vy” Peterson at the Wheatland Presbyterian Church. They made their home in Sac City where Kenny worked as a car salesman (Chevrolet), insurance salesman, and postal employee at Wall Lake. Kenny and Vy moved to Lake View in 1985.

He never really did retire; Kenny loved being with and around people; playing his music at parades and dances (he formed and played with the “Melodier’s” dance band); called BINGO every week at the V.F.W. hall; enjoyed playing cards; and loved to bowl. He was an active member of the V.F.W. and American Legion in Sac City.

Those left to cherish his memory are his brother Eugene Brotherson and wife Norma of Sioux City, Iowa; sister Rowene Roth of Las Vegas, Nevada; sister-in-law Bernice Brotherson of Wall Lake, Iowa; a very special niece Cindy Segebart and husband Bryon of Schaller; and also several other nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; wife Vy on September 21, 2004; four brothers: Harold, Marvin, Loyal, and Irving “Curly” Brotherson; and a sister Genevieve Stark.
