John D. Montag

John Daniel Montag, age 77, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 11, 2006, in Stanton, Nebraska.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, November 15th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:30 p.m., with family present after 6:30 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. There will be a Vigil Service at 7:30 and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 8:00.

John was born on May 29, 1929, in Sac City, Iowa, the son of Edward V. and Alice G. (Fogarty) Montag. He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith and was a life-long member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City. After graduating from Sac City High School John worked his way through college in Fort Dodge selling shoes; receiving a degree in business. John joined the United States Army on February 16, 1951, serving his country through February 11, 1953. Following his discharge from the service he returned to Sac City and engaged in many business ventures.

Being self employed, he started work remodeling older homes, and later established Montag Brothers, Inc., which was involved in soil testing and an agricultural fertilizer business, which dealt mostly with natural minerals. In later years John started growing and selling green house tomatoes. He enjoyed refinishing furniture and buying and selling antiques.

On February 26, 1994, John was united in marriage to Anne Marie Hauberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City, where they made their home. He was a 50 year member of the American Legion in Sac City.

Survivors include his wife, Anne; two sisters and four brothers: Jean Walker of Sac City, Pat Montag of Pasadena, Texas, Paul Montag and wife Delores of Columbus, Nebraska, Mary Montag of Lake View, Iowa, David Montag and wife Pat of David City, Nebraska, and Tom Montag and wife Sandy of Portland, Oregon; sister-in-law Carol Montag of Chicago, Illinois; many nieces and nephews; and close family friends Troy and Michelle Waller and Mike and Triny Waller all of Fort Dodge.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Robert, Joseph, and Philip Montag; brother-in-law John Walker; and sister-in-law Sara Montag.
