June E. Combes

June Evelyn Combes, age 82, of Sac City, Iowa and formerly of Nemaha and Newell, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006, at Park View Care Center in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 11th, at 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, Iowa, with Rev. Carl Benge officiating. Burial will be at the Nemaha Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 10th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

June Mertz was born on May 26, 1924 in Harlan, Iowa, the daughter of Chester and Ada (Baysinger) Mertz.

On July 20, 1945, June was united in marriage to Keith Combes at Kerkhoven, Minnesota. This union was blessed with three children: Jean, Dale, and Jim. They made their home in Nemaha where June was a member of the Nemaha United Methodist Church. In her earlier years she worked as a telephone operator but when they started their family, she stayed home to care for them. June was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart and she cherished every moment spent with them. They lived in the Nemaha area until January of 1983, when they moved to Newell, Iowa. She transferred her membership to the United Methodist Church in Newell and was active in the U. M. Women’s group, and enjoyed Bible studies, reading, Garden Club and was a member of the Legion Auxiliary of Newell.

Those left to mourn her passing include her husband of 61 years, Keith Combes; her children: Jean Jahde and husband Phil of Alta, Iowa, Dale Combes and wife Sue of Aurora, Colorado, and Jim Combes and wife Janene of Nemaha; 5 grandchildren: Shana, Brice, and Jason Combes, and Megan and A. J. Myott; and one great-grandson Ethan Combes. Other survivors include her brother Bob Mertz of Cushing, Wisconsin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Ray and Pat Combes of Joseph, Oregon, and Larry and Norma Erickson of Albert City, Iowa; many extended family members; and friends.

June was preceded in death by her parents and sister Pearl Evans.
