John D. Berkler

John D. Berkler, age 82, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2006, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 23rd, 10:30 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Lytton with burial at Cedar Cemetery. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, Tuesday, August 22nd with Masonic Services at 7:00.

The son of John and Lillian (Shannon) Berkler, John was born on November 8, 1923, on the family farm in Garfield Township, Calhoun County, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Lytton where he remained a lifetime member. Johnnie attended the Lytton Grade School and High School graduating in 1941.

On September 9, 1943, Johnnie was united in marriage to Norma Titus at Bethany, Missouri. Two sons were born to this union: J. D. and Charles. They made their home in Lytton where Johnnie farmed and established Johnnie’s Feed Shed, in November of 1959, which is still in operation today under the management of his son Charles.

Johnnie was an avid fisherman, hunter, and all around outdoorsman. Many people have been recipients of his daily catch. He liked to be involved and helped support the community activities and served as past President of the Lytton Chamber of Commerce, Lytton Senior Housing Corporation, and helped with the Gala Days Celebrations. Johnnie was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Sioux City Shrine.

Survivors include his sons: J. D. Berkler and wife Gail of Clearwater, FL, and Charles Berkler and wife Carla of Lytton. Other survivors include his four grandchildren: Mike Brownlee, Tammy Milcowitz, Ashley and Andy Berkler; two great-grandchildren: Meghan Brownlee and Trey Milcowitz; two sisters: Dorothy Redenbaugh and Marjorie Miller both of Storm Lake; many extended family members; and a host of friends.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents; wife Norma on July 5, 1998; brother, Charles Berkler; and sisters: Betty Davis and Florence Hendrickson.
