Iris Carleen (Polzien) Meyer was born on September 30, 1935 in rural Lake View, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Matilda (Karstens) Polzien. She was baptized on October 27, 1935 and confirmed April 2, 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. She grew up near Lake View where she attended Lake View Grade School and graduated from Lake View High School. She continued her education at Commercial Extension-Business School in Omaha, Nebraska.

On December 18, 1955, wedding bells were ringing as Iris was united in marriage to Paul Meyer at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. Three daughters were born to this union: Deb, Laurie, and Teri. They made their home in Sac City where Paul worked and Iris stayed home to raise her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her family.

Iris read many books, enjoyed playing cards, going bowling, and shopping. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City where she taught Sunday School.

Iris passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Matilda Polzien.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Paul of Sac City; her daughters: Deb Palen and husband Chris of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Laurie Hansen and husband Todd of Denison, Iowa, and Teri Luckow and husband Todd of Sac City, Iowa; six grandchildren: David and Amanda Palen of Sioux Falls, Katie and Jackie Hansen of Denison, and Ashley and Brent Graybill of Sac City. Other survivors include her sister, Phyllis Morris of Omaha, Nebraska; two brothers: LaVern Polzien of Lake View and Marvin Polzien and wife Dora of Ardmore, Oklahoma; her nieces; nephews; extended family members; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 10:30 a.m., at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sac City with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Cory Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 17th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
