Helen Lucille Mooney

Helen Lucille Mooney, age 84, of Nemaha, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 13th at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.  Reverend Carl Benge will officiate.  Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Sac City.

Visitation is from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Helen was born on August 2, 1922 in Buena Vista County, the daughter of Arthur H. and Vera (Hyde) Anderson.  She grew up in Buena Vista and Sac Counties, graduating from Sac City High School in 1940.

On November 15, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Harold B. Mooney in South Sioux City, Nebraska.  They made their home near Nemaha where Harold farmed and Helen took care of her growing family. She also worked as an aide at Park View Care Center for seven years.

As a member of the Federated Flower Club, she loved her flower gardens, enjoyed tending her garden, and in later years, traveling to Texas during the winter months. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cherished her grandchildren and loved their visits. She was so happy when she was able to hold Todd’s first child.

Helen was an active member the United Methodist Church of Nemaha, the ladies circle, and United Methodist Women’s Club.  

Survivors include her children: Larry Mooney and wife Sue of Nemaha, Todd Mooney and wife Julia of St. Charles, Missouri, Bonnie Dean and husband Tom of Jefferson City, Missouri, and Karen Sorensen of Denver, Colorado; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.  Other survivors include her sister, Carol and husband Rev. Jim Hunkins of Lawton, OK; brother-in-law Kenneth Mooney of Sac City; and many extended family members and friends.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold on May 16, 2002; brothers: LeRoy and Duane Anderson; and grandson Zackary Mooney.
