Everett E. Hicks

Everett Eugene Hicks, age 78, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 12th, at the First Christian Church in Sac City with Rev. Sharla Hulsey officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home with military graveside rites by the V.F.W. Post No. 590 & American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 of Sac City.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. in Friday, August 11th at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Everett was born on November 26, 1927, at Lohrville, Iowa, the son of Earl Frost and Anna Elizabeth (Everhart) Hicks. As a child, he grew up in Braham, MN, where he attended grade school, later they moved to Lake City, IA. Everett graduated from Lake City High School in 1946.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on September 20, 1950. Private Everett E. Hicks was awarded the following decorations when he was honorably discharged on September 5, 1952: Korean Service Medal with one Bronze Combat Star, Occupation Medal (Japan) and UN Service Medal.

On September 19, 1953, Everett was united in marriage to Donnita Marie Hutchinson in Storm Lake. They were blessed with three children: Pamela, Denis, and Cynthia. They made their home in Sac City where Everett was a member of the First Christian Church and helped with the youth group in his younger years. He was also a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Everett was a salesman for Lange’s Dairy for 18 years, worked at Vern’s Super Value, Noble Manufacturing, and Western Engineering in Harlan, IA. He was an avid coin collector and dealer, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing in his earlier years. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and family and will be missed by his many friends.

Survivors include his wife, Donnita; daughter Pamela Beckman and husband Allen of Odebolt, IA; son Denis Hicks and wife Sue of Doniphan, NE; ten grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Other survivors include his twin brother, Arnie Hicks and wife Donna of Linn Grove, IA; sister, Dorothy Hoover and husband Ernie of Hawthorne, CA; sisters-in-law: Darlene Hicks of Deadwood, SD, and Irene Hicks of Perth Amboy, NJ; many nieces and nephews; extended family members; and friends.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Cynthia Ann; three sisters: Gertrude Lambert, Louise Schammel, and Eleanor Carver; and four brothers: Robert, Alan, Paul, and James Hicks.
