Elizabeth M. Cretsinger

Elizabeth M. Cretsinger, age 85, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2006 at Loring Hospital in Sac City.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 23rd, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City with Rev. Sharla Hulsey officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 22nd, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Elizabeth was born on November 12, 1920 in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the daughter of William A. and Nellie R. (Mastler) Jarvis. She grew up on farms around Sac County, attended country school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1936. In 1945, Elizabeth was married to LeRoy Chriswell, he passed away in 1962, on December 28, 1966 Elizabeth was united in marriage to Warren Cretsinger, he passed away in 1990. She was baptized in 1983 at the Free Methodist Church and was a member of the First Christian Church in Sac City.

Elizabeth was the best cook! She began cooking at the Park Hotel as a young woman, and was proud to have cooked for governors, congressmen, doctors and lawyers. From there she owned her own café in the 50’s called Ciscero Café. In the 60’s she owned Tu-Mar Inn and in the 70’s to 80’s owned the Green Lantern, and then cooked at Fonda Rehab, retiring in 1989.

Elizabeth was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved children and helped raise many other children than her own. Christmas was her favorite holiday, she loved cooking and baking all the family favorites. She enjoyed fishing in Minnesota and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Linda Birt and husband LuVerne of Sac City; son, Richard Jarvis and wife Kim of Albert City, Iowa; five grandchildren: Brian Birt, Chris Tibbs, Tiffany Jarvis, Tyler Jarvis, and Amanda Dahl; ten great-grandchildren; three brothers: William Jarvis, Jr. and wife Dorothy of Sac City, Vernon Jarvis of Rockwell City, and Verlyn Jarvis and wife Sandra of Sac City; four sisters: Flossie Wulkow of Wall Lake, Mary Hyle of Des Moines, Velma McCullough of Storm Lake, and Thelma Lietz of Spirit Lake; sister-in-law, Marge Jarvis of Sac City; many extended family members and friends.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husbands LeRoy Chriswell and Warren Cretsinger; infant sister, Ruth Ann Jarvis; sister Hazel Patterson; two brothers: Bernard Jarvis and Richard “Little Richard” Jarvis; and grandson-in-law, Robert Tibbs.
