Delmar R. Wulkow

Delmar R. Wulkow, age 83, of Lytton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa.

Delmar was born on August 16, 1923, the son of Richard and Augusta (Peters) Wulkow. He was baptized on May 15, 1925 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church and later confirmed there on April 25, 1934. He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Country School (Sac County) through eighth grade, and received his G.E.D.

On December 5, 1942 Delmar was united in marriage to Flossie Jarvis at the St. Peter’s Parsonage. To this union three children were born: Dennis, Richard, and Patricia.

Delmar was inducted into the U.S. Army, on March 20, 1943, serving his country on Patton’s 3rd Army, during WWII; earning the rank of combat Infantryman. He was honorably discharged on November 30, 1945 with special honors: American Theatre Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon, three Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and one Service Bar Victory Medal.

Delmar farmed for many years, southwest of Lytton. He designed and built his own home, enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and flying. He was a devoted husband and father and loved to follow all his children’s activities in school. Delmar cherished his grandchildren and looked forward to their visits. He was active in the community and was a member of the Lytton Community School Board, Sac County Fair Board, Lytton American Legion, and a candidate for public office. As a lifetime member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, he served faithfully as an elder, trustee, and held various Men’s Club Offices.

Survivors include his wife, Flossie; his children: Richard Wulkow and wife Barbara of Boone, IA; Dennis Wulkow of Carroll, IA; and Patricia Hogan and husband Richard of Carroll. Other survivors include his 13 grandchildren: Kim Nees, Lori Moore, Sally Dighton, Wendy Postel, Michelle Eighmy, Chris Wulkow, Amy Badding, Holly Anderson, Jennifer Wulkow, Tony Wulkow, Tyler Wulkow, Troy Hogan, and Jay Hogan; 17 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Prentice and her husband Robert of Terril, Iowa; and many extended family members and friends.

Delmar was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Augusta Wulkow, and son-in-law Gary Pitstick.

The Wulkow family request memorials be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Sac City, Iowa or Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake, Iowa.
