Duane P. Haley

Duane Patrick Haley, age 74, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2006, at his home in rural Sac County.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 2nd, at the Presbyterian Church in Early. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., at Cory Grove Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home with full military graveside rites by the V.F.W. Post No. 590 and American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 of Sac City.

Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, January 1st, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Duane was born on June 22, 1932, in Omaha, Nebraska the son of Walter and Mildred Haley. He was baptized as an infant in Lyons, Nebraska, attended country school near Sac City, and graduated from Sac City High School. He continued his education at Iowa State University. Duane served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1955 earning the rank of Sergeant.

On February 4, 1956 Duane and Joan Dyslin were married at Aurelia, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Dawn, Rhonda, Teresa, and Todd. They made their home west of Sac City where Duane farmed and they raised their family. He took great pride in farming, caring for and loving his animals. He also enjoyed going fishing, raising melons and giving them away, baling hay and buying bulls. Farming was his life but his love was always his family. He enjoyed doing things with his family and friends and had a great sense of humor.

Duane was a member of the Sac City Lions, American Legion, and Masonic Lodge. He was a township trustee and was instrumental in straightening the many older gravestones at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City. As a member of the Presbyterian Church in Early, Duane served as a Trustee.

Those left to mourn his passing include his wife Jo; daughters: Dawn Freese and husband Larry of Early, Rhonda Giebelstein and husband Jerry of Ames, Iowa, and Teresa Stoll and husband Dave of Primghar, Iowa; son Todd Haley of Pomeroy; ten grandchildren: Ryan (Jackie) Freese, Megan (Troy) Jeffrey, Annie, Adam and Aubree Stoll, AJ and Haley Giebelstein, Natasha, Matthew, and Kristen Haley; three great-grandchildren: Savana and Landan Jeffrey and Riley Turner; extended family members; and many friends.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents and brother Danny Haley.
