Charles W. Johnson
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 27th, at 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Early, Iowa, with burial at the Early Union Cemetery. Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City is in charge of arrangements. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26th, at the funeral home in Sac City. Chuck was born on January 10, 1928, in Clinton Township, Sac County, Iowa, the son of Richard S. and Esther O. (Sjogren) Johnson. They lived on the family farm between Early and Sac City and later moved into Sac City where Chuck attended school. On May 8, 1946, he was inducted into the United States Army serving his country through October 31, 1947, earning the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal. Chuck was united in marriage to Helen A. Venzke on April 17, 1949, in Sac City. He worked as a farm laborer near Rembrandt and moved to Early in 1954, where he operated the Standard Gas Station. In 1965 he began working as a mechanic for Shull Motors in Sac City and in the early 1970’s started working for the State of Iowa Department of Transportation, retiring in 1987. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Early. Chuck was a loving and caring family man who treasured the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a hard working man, who enjoyed the outdoors, going hunting and fishing, attending baseball games, doing woodworking projects, and all around handyman for Deb and Denise. Those left to mourn his passing include his children: Deborah Johnson of Early, Iowa, Darrell Johnson and wife Kimberly of Sibley, Iowa, and Denise Wisecup and husband David of Independence, Iowa; four grandchildren: Zachary and Ashley Johnson, and Nathaniel and Allison Wisecup; two great-grandsons: Treyton and Jagger Johnson; brother Donald Johnson of Clute, Texas; sister Lois Hoffard of Storm Lake, Iowa; brothers-in-law: Lewis Hummel of Sac City and Wayne Venzke of Mason City, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Marge Johnson of Sac City, Lois Garlock of Tipton, Iowa, and Shirley Hare and husband Richard of Ida Grove, Iowa; many extended family members and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen on February 2, 2000; brothers Royal and Gordon Johnson; sisters: Gladys Lytle, Phyllis Hummel, and Marie Dahlman; and granddaughter Chelsea Wisecup. |
