Wilson Murley

Wilson “Bill” Decatur Murley, age 84, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away at his farm home, in rural Sac City, on March 28, 2005, surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on August 12, 1920, in Lauderdale County, Tennessee, the son of Robert and Lillie (Escue) Murley. The family lived in Lauderdale County where Bill was baptized in Mary’s Chapel and attended grade school.

On August 28, 1942, Bill was inducted into the US Army, entering at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, to serve his country during WWII. He was stationed in France, Germany and England as an ambulance driver and a reinforcement for the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorable discharged on November 19, 1945, at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

On May 5, 1984, Bill was united in marriage to Kathleen Irene (Hauptman) Harman, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sac City, Iowa.

Bill’s love of farm embraced his entire life He only retired from it on the day of his death, March 28, 2005. Besides his love of the land, family was important to him and he liked to fish, play cards with friends, and watch his favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, play on TV.

Survivors include, his wife, Kathy: his children, Dale Murley and his wife Shirly, Gary Murley and his wife Paula, and Tony Harman, all of Sac City, Iowa, Karen and Doug Thevenot of Bonner Springs, Kansas and Kessi Harman and Darin Leighter of Lake View, Iowa. Twelve grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Everett Murley: four brothers, Ben, Edward, Robert “Bud”, and James: and three sisters, Jennie Lou Crowder, Laura Crowder and Florence Mincey.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 A.M. on Friday at the First Christian Church in Sac City with Rev. Sharla Hulsey officiating. Burial will be in the Cory Grove Cemetery in Sac City with presentation of the flag by V.F.W. Post No. 590 and American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 of SacCity.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 on Thursday at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
