Velma G. Rodman
Velma was born on October 13, 1907, in Sac City, Iowa, to Ulysses E. and Minnie (Masteller) Corderman. She lived her entire life in Sac City. She accepted Christ as her savior in the Christian Church at the age of nine. She graduated high school in 1925 and married Charley McCallister on July 16, 1926. To this union was born two daughters, Marilyn and Dorothy. Charley passed away in 1947. On October 5, 1953, she married Boyd Rodman. They celebrated their Golden Anniversary in 2003. Velma was a professional seamstress working for Chief Clothing Store and the public. She worked 15 years at the Sac City Creamery. For 70 years she taught Sunday school. She enjoyed volunteering at the nursing homes, blessing them with her musical talents, playing the piano and reading the Bible to the residents. Her hobbies were quilting, crocheting, and playing the piano. She was a part time pianist at the Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of music, directing the choir at the Christian Church and later in the Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband Boyd; two daughters: Marilyn Phillips of Sac City, and Dorothy Riedell of Lake View; ten grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 14 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband Charley McCallister; her parents Ulysses and Minnie Corderman; three brothers: Fred, Ralph, and Eugene; two sisters: Merea and Leona; two sons-in-law: Robert Riedell and Duane Phillips; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 6th, 10:30 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Sac City with Reverend Ross Craig officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Sac City under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, September 5th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. |
