Sandra J. Nelson
Visitation is from 5:00-7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30th, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. Sandra Jean Nelson, age 68, of Sac City died in the Hospice Unit of the Loring Hospital in Sac City, on Sunday, November 27, 2005. Her courageous battle with cancer could not overshadow living life to its fullest. Sandy was born June 5, 1937, the daughter of Kenneth and Janice (McCarl) Littlefield. She attended Sac City High School and graduated in 1955. She went on to Iowa State University and after her three children were in school, she completed her Bachelor of Arts at Buena Vista College and her Master of Science from Drake University, graduating with top honors. On April 21, 1956, Sandra and Ronald Eugene Nelson were married at the United Methodist Church in Sac City. They were blessed with three children: Jeff, Linda, and Randy along with five grandchildren. Ron and Sandy lived and farmed near Sac City. Through teaching primarily English for almost 25 years at the Lytton School, Sandy touched many lives by sharing her love of learning. Sandy was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church of Sac City. She sang in the choir for over 50 years and served on many committees. She also sang with the Chautauqua Singers, County Chords, and was involved in other community performances. Card clubs, golfing, reading, traveling, attending theatrical productions, and playing trivia were some of her favorite pastimes, and she enjoyed being a member of MENSA. Sandy loved sharing her wonderful sense of humor and stories with family and friends. She is survived by her son: Jeffrey Nelson and his fiancé Jackie Spinden of Waukee, IA; daughter: Linda Sunderman and her husband David of North Mankato, MN; son: Randall Nelson and his wife Christine of Westminster, CO; grandchildren: Heidi and Sarah Sunderman and Amanda, Jacob, and Rachel Nelson; brothers: James Littlefield of Hermiston, OR; Keith Littlefield and his wife Molly of Kent, WA; Roger Littlefield and his wife Linda of Spencer, IA; sister: Janet Grove and her husband Tom of Franktown, CO; and mother-in-law: Ruby Nelson of Sac City, IA. Sandy was preceded in death by her husband: Ronald Nelson on May 27, 2002; her parents: Kenneth and Janice Littlefield; sisters-in-law: Norma Elijah and Kathy Littlefield; and father-in-law: Andrew Nelson. |
