Raymond J. Raine
Raymond came to America in 1913 with his parents, two brothers and his younger sister. Raymond and his family sailed from Liverpool, England to Boston, Massachusetts on a ship named the Laconia. From New York they took the train to Wall Lake, Iowa where relatives were waiting to greet them. Those relatives who came to America earlier and settled near Wall Lake, were his two older sisters and three uncles: Jack, Timothy, and Charlie Raine. Raymond started his education at the Boone country school west of Wall Lake, and then moved with his family to Crawford County where he graduated from the 8th grade. After graduation, he worked in farming and learned to be a mechanic. When Raymond was 28 years old, he met Marjorie Maxine McCrea in Boyer, Iowa at a local grocery store where young people gathered for a dance. They enjoyed each others company and married on September 9, 1938. They had two children, a son, Jerrolld Eugene and a daughter Kathleen Rae. Raymond worked as a farmer and a mechanic for all his adult life in and around Wall Lake, Iowa. He was a member of the Farmer’s Union and the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lake City, Iowa. He loved to fish, hunt, and tell stories. He and his wife enjoyed traveling. They had fond memories of traveling in North Dakota, Wyoming, California and Canada. People were important to Raymond and he was an important friend to many people. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters, and his daughter Kathleen Raine. He leaves behind his wife, Maxine and his son Jerrolld and his wife Carol of Rockwell City, Iowa and all his many friends who mourn his passing. |
