Marie Bettin

Funeral services for Marie Bettin will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 27th, at Peace Lutheran Church, Wall Lake, Iowa, with Reverend Roger Carlisle officiating. Burial will be at the Wall Lake Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26th, 4:00-8:00 p.m., at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake.

Marie Christine (Claussen) Bettin, age 90, of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, Iowa. Marie was born on November 25, 1914, the daughter of Hans and Dora (Namanny) Claussen, at home in rural Denison, Iowa, Crawford County. She was baptized on January 11, 1915, and confirmed April 1, 1928, by Pastor Frehse at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. She attended country school in Crawford County through the eighth grade.

On February 16, 1938, Marie was united in marriage to Lawrence Bettin at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Cook Township, in Odebolt, Iowa. They were blessed with two children: Charles and Janet.

Marie dedicated her life to the support and care of her family. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and “partner” with her husband on the family farm. She enjoyed yard work, gardening, and liked to visit with friends and neighbors. She was an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church of Wall Lake, Iowa. She held numerous offices in the Ladies Aid.

Survivors include her son, Rev. Charles Bettin and his wife Linda of Lake View; three grandchildren: Todd (Teresa) Bettin of Lake View, Lori (Dan) Bettin of Hopkins, MN, and Christopher Bettin of Dallas, TX; four great-grandchildren: April and Michaela Bettin (Lori’s) and Natasha and Katelyn Bettin (Todd’s); son-in-law Charles Curb of Clarksville, AR; sister-in-law Ione Claussen of Denison, IA; extended family members; and many friends.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lawrence in 2003; daughter Janet Curb in 1998; grandson Jason in 1968; brothers: Henry and Peter Claussen; and sisters: Elsie Frehse, Hilda Lindstrom, and Emma Hausman.
