Marvin J. Weitzel

Memorial services for Marvin Weitzel will be held on Saturday, December 10th, 11:00 a.m., at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View with Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.

There will be no visitation.

Marvin J. Weitzel, age 88, of Sac City, formerly of Lake View, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2005, at Loring Care Center in Sac City.

Marvin was born on February 4, 1917, in Lake View the son of Oscar C. and Marie (Wollesen) Weitzel. He grew up in Lake View and graduated from Lake View High School. He was baptized May 3, 1917, at Lake View Congregational Church by Pastor C. Fauth and confirmed June 26, 1932 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by Pastor F. Wiese.

On October 16, 1941 Marvin was united in marriage to Irene McGilvra in Maryville, Missouri. This union was blessed with two children: Donald and Patricia. They made there home in Lake View, where Marvin worked as foreman at the Lake View Concrete Plant for 45 years, retiring in 1978. He loved his family, church, and community. He was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and held various offices in the church through the years. He was a proud volunteer for the Lake View Fire Department for 53 years, retiring in 1992. He did electrical TV repair in his spare time at night, was on the County Disaster Service, helped out at the Brookridge Apartments, and in his younger years policed the teen dance’s at Lakewood Ballroom.

He enjoyed fishing, cooking for his family, especially soups, loved to garden, and come out to the Rubendall Ranch to help wherever he could.

Marvin cherished his family and they cherished him. He was the best father and father-in-law and will be greatly missed by his daughter, Patricia Rubendall and her husband Lonnie and daughter-in-law Sandra Weitzel all of Sac City. Other survivors include his special friend Lenore Romey; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Dean McGilvra of Des Moines, Iowa; extended family members and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law; wife Irene on April 19, 1987; son Donald in 2001; two sisters: Dorothy Weitzel in infancy and Bernice Lytten; and a great-granddaughter Samantha Weitzel.

Marvin was a friend to all and will be greatly missed.
