Mary Rix
Mary taught school in the Sac City Community Grade School as well as helping Earl on the farm. They were blessed with three children: Elizabeth, Jeffrey and James. Following Earl’s death in 1960, she moved to Sac City where she resumed teaching and raising and enjoying her three children. She continued teaching until 1987 and truly loved her profession; her students were very special to her. Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church, DAR, U.M.W., and Comas Club. Her greatest joys were her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed the outdoors, many and various family pets, flowers, painting, writing, and artwork. Mary passed away on Monday, May 30, 2005, at Park View Care Center in Sac City. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother John Rishel, and sister Louise Schlichtemeier. Mary is survived by her children and grandchildren: Elizabeth and John Metier, Benjamin, Matthew, and Meghan of Fort Dodge, IA; Jeff and Linda Rix, Michael, Jonathan, and David of Omaha; and Jim and Susan Rix, Anna and Olivia of Chicago, IL. She is also survived by one brother, J. Burton Rishel of Columbus, OH, and many other relatives that were dear to her heart. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2:00 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Sac City with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home. Visitation is Friday, June 3rd, 5:00-7:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City. |
