Marjorie “Maxine” (McCrae) Raine was the first of five children born to Emma Jacobsen McCrae and Gordon Stanley McCrae. She was born at her parents’ home on July 17, 1919 on a farm Northeast of Sac City, where her grandmother attended the birth.

Maxine entered kindergarten in Lake View and later moved with her family to Sac City where she attended the public school through the fourth grade. She finished grade school in the country school six miles southwest of Sac City. She attended high school one year in Lake View and graduated from the Sac City High School.

Maxine met Raymond Thomas Raine in Boyer, Iowa at a gathering of young people. They enjoyed each other’s company and married on September 9, 1938. They had two children, Jerrolld Eugene and Kathleen Rae. Maxine worked at home as a homemaker.

Maxine’s Christian experience had always been important to her, growing up in the Christian Church in Sac City, she attended Camp Foster the summers that she was 16 and 17. Those experiences left a life-long impression and understanding that God loved her and that it was her responsibility to love others and pass the love of God along. As an adult, she joined the Lake City Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lake City, Iowa, where she was a long-time investment leader and President of the Dorcas circle. While she was able, she continued to enhance her Christian experience by attending camp meetings during the summers and helped contribute to local and worldwide mission outreach by actively participating in the church’s Ingathering Program. Maxine had a deep, abiding faith and knew that God had been with her all her life long.

Maxine enjoyed homemaking, reading, and traveling. She and Raymond had fond memories of traveling in Wyoming, California, and Canada.

Maxine passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2005, at Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond of 67 years; daughter Kathleen; two sisters: Evelyn and Shirley; and two brothers: Robert and an infant brother.

She leaves behind her son, Jerrolld Raine and wife Carol of Rockwell City, IA; extended family members; and many friends who mourn her passing.
