Mildred "Dea" Buckley
Mildred “Dea” Buckley, age 81, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away at her home on Tuesday, June 28, 2005. Dea was born March 29, 1924, at Millersburg, Iowa, the daughter of Mark and Nellie (Healey) Van Horn. She spent seven years in Millersburg and in 1931 moved to Sac City where she attended Sac City Schools graduating in 1942. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sac City. On December 17, 1942, Dea was united in marriage to Dana Buckley in South Sioux City, Nebraska. They were blessed with four children: Jerry, Nancy, Ann, and Beverly. She had worked at Vern Jons’ Super Value Grocery Store in Sac City. Her hobbies included reading, crocheting, playing cards and walking, which she had to discontinue due to her health. Her family was her life. Dea will be remembered for her big heart, always full of thoughtfulness for others. The joy and love of her life were her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one special niece, Jill Buckley Campbell. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dana; son Jerry Buckley and his wife Stephanie of Lytton; her daughters: Nancy Spanjer and husband Gerald of Sac City and Beverly Wiebers and husband Rick of Monticello, IA; ten grandchildren: Amy Brayton, Greg Buckley, Kirk Buckley, Derek Buckley, Dana Drost, Denice Whipkey, Debbie Rehorst, Nikki Schallau, Chris Wiebers, and Shelby Streif; and twenty great-grandchildren. Other survivors include her sister: Marian Wayt of Hobbs, New Mexico and many extended family members and friends. Dea was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Ann in childbirth; brother James Van Horn; four sisters: Mary Ruth Stone, Phyllis Bedell, Harriet Lavery, and Maxine Van Horn; parents-in-law Laud and Margaret Buckley; brothers-in-law: Earl Buckley, Raymond Buckley, Robert Buckley and wife Marge; and sisters-in-law: Marjorie Burke and husband Roger and Dorothy Moore and husband Keith. |
