Kathleen “Katie” Ann Smith, age 62, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 1, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City with the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Katie was born on June 6, 1943, in Mishawaka, Indiana, the daughter of Paul and Jean (Byer) McMahan. They moved to Dubuque when Katie was three years of age. She graduated from Dubuque Wahlert High School and Clark College in Dubuque in 1966.

On May 28, 1969, Katie was united in marriage to George C. Smith in Engelwood, Colorado. They moved to Carroll in 1970, Wall Lake in 1975, and to Sac City in 1989, where she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Katie was a loving wife and mother, caring for their son Paul, and making a warm and comfortable home for her family was her greatest joy. She also enjoyed reading and doing cross-stitch.

Survivors include her husband George and son Paul Smith of Sac City; sister-in-law Joann McMahan of Denver, CO; uncle A. P. McMahan of Mercer Island, WA; and four nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Anthony McMahan.
