Jo Vote

Funeral services for Jo Vote will be held Monday, April 11th, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sac City with Rev. Dean McPherson officiating. Burial will be at the Corey Grove Cemetery in Sac City with Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Visitation is Sunday, April 10th, 4:00-8:00 pm, at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.

Joanne K. Vote, age 66, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Joanne Kay Brouchous was born on January 22, 1939, the daughter of Elmer Oscar Brouchous and Eva Leona (Niles) Brouchous Edmonds, in a small farm house just northwest of Sac City. She started 1st grade in the Nemaha School and in the 4th grade moved to a farm south of Sac City. She attended country school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1956.

She worked as a secretary before marrying Bud Vote on September 1, 1957. They lived in a small house north of Noble’s Manufacturing where Lori, her first daughter, was born. In 1959 they moved south of Loring Hospital to an acreage where the rest of her family was born: Kathy, Linda, and Curtis. Jo worked alongside her husband for 20 years in their family surveying business, Sac City Surveying & Mapping, retiring in 2000. Jo and Bud built a new home on the airport road in 2002 where they currently live.

Jo was a member of the United Methodist Church and was baptized there in 1956. She belonged to the Wa Tan Ye organization, United Methodist Women’s Group, Sac County Genealogy Society, and to a coffee club of friends for 45 years.

She was a wonderful mother and loved spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, dancing, reading, genealogy, bowling, and the country life. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 47 years, Bud Vote; her children: Lori McGhee and her husband Wayne of Richardson, TX, Kathy Hart and her husband Roger of Norwalk, IA, Linda Peterson and her husband Jeff of Leawood, KS, and Curt Vote and his wife Sara of Clive, IA; four grandchildren: Jacob and Aaron Peterson, and Steven and Brian Hart; one step grandson, James McGhee; her brothers: Arlen Brouchous and his wife Leona of Altamonte Springs, FL, and John Brouchous and his wife Connie of Sac City; sister Janet Brand of Richardson, TX; mother-in-law Evelyn Vote of Sac City; many nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents: Elmer Brouchous and Eva Edmonds; and step father Orson Edmonds.
